Student Recruitment Team Hosts Events For Prospective Students

This past weekend, Hampton University held their annual Fall Open house and Honors Visitation events. On Nov. 9, 2024, prospective students, along with their family and friends, came to campus to attend the Fall Open House. Fall Open House gives prospective students and their families a chance to get familiar with the campus, meet with faculty and staff, and learn more about Hampton’s academic programs.

Honors high school students from around the country were invited to visit the campus and meet with admissions staff and the Student Recruitment Team (SRT) for the weekend.

On Friday, Nov. 8, 2024, SRT held a welcome ceremony for the honors students and planned ice breaker games for them. They were able to attend classes, campus tours, and then were taken to a play to end the day.

Fall Open House took place the following day on Saturday, and all visitors started their day with a formal welcome from Hampton University ambassadors and a performance from the HU Marching Force. That evening, a gala was held for the Honors Visitation students where they received their scholarship awards and a breakdown of their fall tuition.

The Student Recruitment Team on campus aims to engage and recruit prospective students by hosting events like Honors Visitation and Open House. Cyanna Cabell, a graduating senior history major from Amherst, VA is a member of SRT and experienced both Fall Open House and Honors Visitation. Cabell was an Honors Visitation Weekend “big,” and served as a mentor and guide to a group of students as her “littles.”

“Honors Visitation was so much fun. It's a lot of hard work on our end as bigs, but it’s worth it to come back next year and be in the same space as your littles. My open house was a bit hectic with trying to multitask between so many different organizations and positions throughout the day,” said Cabell.

Cabell continued on to say:

“I definitely feel like Honors Visitation is a great opportunity for young scholars to see the potential of Hampton University. We have so much to offer and the weekend gives them just a glimpse of the next four years.”

Fall Open House and Honors Visitation Weekend happen once a year at Hampton University and are great ways for potential future Hamptonians to see into the next four years of their life. SRT has more things planned for this school year.

“Be on the lookout for next semester as we host Admitted Students Day in February and High School Day in April,” says Cabell.
