Trump Selects New Cabinet Members

The new United States President-elect, Donald Trump, has already begun making decisions pertaining to who he wants by his side during his presidency.

It was announced on Nov. 3, 2024, that Trump has already begun his decision process for his new team.

In an interview in October, Donald Trump said the “biggest mistake” of his first term as president was choosing people that were “bad, disloyal people” to join his administration team, according to Time Magazine.

“I think that Trump’s appointments are intentional. He knows that giving loyalist jobs will only serve to help his agenda in implementing agenda 47 and potentially project 2025,” said Phaedra Hyche, a third-year political science major at HU.

The people that he has already selected for his team are Matt Gaetz, Tulsi Gabbard, Marc Rubio, Mike Huckabee, Steve Witkoff, and Dan Scavino.

Matt Gaetz was selected as U.S. Attorney Marshall. He is a Republican Congressman from Florida, and if confirmed for the role, Gaetz will take over the department that just recently was investigating him for possible sexual misconduct and illicit drug use.

Tulsi Gabbard was selected to be the Director of National Intelligence. She was a former Democratic member of Congress, who served in the Army National Guard for more than two decades and was a member of the Armed Services, Homeland Security, and foreign affairs committees.

Marco Rubio was selected as Secretary of State. He is a Florida Senator and currently serves as the Vice-Chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee and sits on the foreign Relations Committee.

Mike Huckabee was selected to be the ambassador to Israel. He was the former Arkansas Governor. He will be tapping in as a loyal ally and if confirmed he will be stepping into the role as Israel wages war against Iran’s proxies as a humanitarian catastrophe unfolds in Gaza.

Steve Witkoff was selected to be Special Envoy to the Middle east. He is a real estate executive and philanthropist. He will be chosen to be a close personal ally and major campaign fundraiser for a role that could shape U.S foreign policy in the region.

He is also set to co-chair Trump’s inaugural committee.

Dan Scavino was selected as Deputy Chief of Staff. He has been a key figure in Trump’s political orbit for a decade. He first started as Trump’s caddy and has risen through the ranks throughout the years.

Among the latest people to be selected to Trump’s administration team is Elon Musk.

Both Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy have been elected the Co-Heads of the Department of Government Efficiency.

“The problem with Trump selecting Elon Musk is that it will now allow him to control the departments that regulate profits of his companies and allow him to adjust the policies to save himself tens of dollars a year, increasing his wealth,” said Ahmir Hoskin, first year international studies major, Spanish minor on the pre-law track.

Along with Musk, the people selected are Pete Hegseth as Secretary of Defense, John Ratcliffe as CIA Director, Mike Waltz as National Security Director, Elise Stefanik as U.N. Ambassador Lee Zeldin as EPA Administrator Tom Homan as Border Czar, and Susie Wiles as Chief of Staff.

“It’s honestly scary to think about what comes next under his administration”, said Hyche.
