Former Virginia Tech quarterback Marcus Vick was arrested with domestic violence charges in relation to an incident that occurred on Dec. 30, 2025. Chesapeake police say that Vick was officially charged with misdemeanor domestic assault and battery. He was arrested in Hampton, VA.
Police responded to a reported domestic assault incident around 8:50 a.m. on Dec. 30, according to WTKR News. Officers spoke to a woman on scene who said that she was assaulted in front of their child during a custody exchange outside of an apartment building. Chesapeake police claim that Vick fled the scene before law enforcement arrived. Police obtained a warrant for Vick’s arrest and filed an emergency protective order for the alleged victim.
Although Vick does not have any previous run-ins with the law regarding domestic violence, some students pursuing careers in criminal justice feel as though cases involving public figures should be treated with due process like any other.
“In my opinion, I think this case should be handled the same way as any domestic case, fairly and based on the evidence,” said Khari Barnes, a third-year criminal justice major. “The defendant should be presumed innocent until proven guilty for sure and the court should protect the rights of the victim and the accused equally.”
One student is concerned about the child present during the altercation.
“I think the whole situation is unfortunate. Incidents like this really affect the child the most so hopefully the child is safe and can be placed in the right home,” said Todd Bond, a third-year political science major. “As far as [Micheal Vick’s] brother, I have no tolerance for domestic abuse so hopefully justice is served whether he is innocent or guilty.”
Chesapeake police said that there is still an ongoing investigation. Surveillance footage from the apartment complex where the incident took place has been requested by law enforcement.
