Two men are dead after a shooting at The Peninsula Town Center in Hampton on the evening of November 1st.

According to WTKR News, the Hampton Police Division said officers were notified of gunfire at a parking garage in the 100 Block of Cary Street around 7:05 p.m. When authorities arrived on the second floor, they found two adult males suffering from gunshot wounds. The victims were provided immediate medical care.

On November 4th, Hampton police revealed the identities of the two victims. Tylon Evans, a Suffolk native, died in the hospital, while Jeremiah Dean, a Hampton resident, died at the scene.

Police are still investigating this crime and have not released any more information to the public, but ask that people contact them if they have any details.

This fatal shooting at The Peninsula Town Center raises alarm for residents of Hampton, especially students at Hampton University. Hampton students frequently go to The Peninsula Town Center to hang out with friends, go on dates, run errands at Target, or simply just to get a break from school life.

“The shooting in the PTC was quite a shock for me, seeing as I never imagined the place I go to almost every weekend could be a subject of gun violence,” said second-year journalism major Sydney Frank.

Students have also been shocked by the fact that a shooting happened in Hampton. Some students and parents chose Hampton University because the city of Hampton seemed safe.

Frank continued, “I have always thought of Hampton, VA, as a safe area, but I’m not sure how I feel about my safety moving forward.”
