Atlanta singer and rapper Latto, revealed her pregnancy through the rollout of her upcoming album Big Mama.

The rapper dropped the news with the release of single ‘Business & Personal,’  blending a major life update with a strategic music drop. The announcement was accompanied by visuals showing her baby bump, signaling that themes of motherhood and personal growth will play a central role in the project.

Big Mama will be Latto’s fourth studio album and is scheduled for release later this year, marking her first major musical era since confirming her long-rumored relationship publicly.

Latto and 21 Savage had been linked romantically for several years before either publicly acknowledged the relationship. The rapper previously referred to 21 Savage as her “husband” in interviews, despite the couple keeping most details of their relationship private.

The news of her pregnancy sent the internet into a frenzy with reactions ranging from congratulatory messages, to criticism of the couple’s decision to have a child outside of marriage. Latto, who previously referred to herself as “big mama, no kids”, has maintained that her relationship and personal decisions are not up for public approval.

“I have nothing to prove to anyone. I have no rumor to clear up,” Latto said, per Paper Magazine. “I’ve been with my man for years now, and it ain’t going nowhere. To me, that’s clearly a result of me moving and operating how I do.

Hampton University students and Latto fans also weighed in on the announcement.

“When people put the pieces together and saw that the father was 21 Savage, it was exciting because they're both from Atlanta, and that's where I'm from,” said Aaliyah Reynolds, Hampton University freshman and Atlanta native.

The discourse highlights the ongoing societal expectations placed on women in the public eye, especially around marriage and motherhood. Some believe that female artists have often faced heavier scrutiny than their male counterparts, a pattern which can be seen in past reactions to celebrity pregnancies and relationships.

“Honestly, women are always looked at differently because men, they're not expected to know it all, but women, we just have to know everything as first-time mothers. And honestly, that's just a very unfair way of building a perspective on what parenthood could be,” Reynolds added about the backlash Latto faced.
