The trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day was released this weekend and set a 24-hour trailer record with 718 million views. The film, part of the Spider-Man trilogy starring Tom Holland, is set to release on July 31st, 2026.

In the film Spider-Man: No Way Home, the story ends with Tom Holland's Peter Parker being erased from the memories of everyone in his universe. He is left isolated, forced to navigate the world he knows alone.

According to fans, this state is when the character is at his strongest. Across the different depictions of Spider-Man, a great loss is integral to his character development. When Tom Holland's depiction of the character is introduced, he is younger than the superhero is normally portrayed. This has led fans to speculate what iteration of the character he will become.

“I think they are going to turn him into man-spider in the new movie,” said Ethan Soto, a Hampton University student and comic book fan. Man-spider is a version of Spider-Man where his spider DNA mutates and overruns him. This leads to him having a more spider-like appearance with multiple arms and a face with fangs and 8 eyes.

This is a popular theory amongst fans because of scenes in the trailer where he produces webs organically and has blacked-out eyes.

In the trailer, the character Scorpion is seen, who also appeared in Spider-Man: Homecoming. However, villains that have not been seen before, like Turantula and Tombstone, have appeared in Spider-Man comic books. These characters have already been cast, and fans speculate that there may be a larger antagonist in the movie that has not been revealed.

"I think the movie feels, tonally, like a fresh start," said Tom Holland. No matter which adversary the character faces, the film is sure to draw a sizeable audience at its release.
