5 people were shot during Howard University’s 101st Homecoming Weekend on October 24th, 2025.

According to a DC News Now article, a 13-year-old boy, a woman, and three men suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The 5 injured were found near Howard’s architecture building.

The shooting was carried out by two 19-year-old males, Naseem Parker and Jahlil Abdul Sabur. Despite being one of the perpetrators, Parker was one of the people injured by gunfire. Both men are in police custody and charged with weapon-related offenses.

There were three firearms recovered at the scene. There has been no account of any conflict or altercations that led up to this incident. The police are investigating the circumstances that led to the shooting.

“This incident was not affiliated with Howard University, and no Howard University students, faculty, or staff were involved,” said The Office of Howard University Communications in a press release.

Howard is not the only school in the news for shootings. A shooting took place at Lincoln University on October 25th, during their homecoming celebration. A man was fatally shot, and 6 other individuals, including a current student and alumnus of Lincoln, were wounded but expected to survive, according to a CBS article.

After other recent shootings on and near college campuses, students from other campuses express their desire for peace and no gun violence.

“I’m glad that everyone is safe, and I really hope nothing like that happens at any other homecomings,” said Hampton University second-year nursing major Jada Williams.
