Basketball Wives Will Not Be Returning

Basketball Wives will not return after twelve seasons, disappointing fans. Premiering 16 years ago in 2010 on VH1, Basketball Wives followed the lives and friendships of current and former NBA basketball wives and girlfriends. Locations for the show included Miami, Florida, and Los Angeles, California. The show was created and executive-produced by Shaunie Henderson, basketball icon Shaquille O’Neal’s ex-wife and the mother of his kids.

Henderson announced the news through social media on January 29th. She explained that Basketball Wives not returning is a transition, not an ending. “I’m stepping into a news season with exciting projects ahead that align with where I am personally and professionally. More to come,” she explained to followers.

The major success of Basketball Wives led to spin-offs, including Baseball Wives, Football Wives, Baller Wives, Shaunie’s Homecourt, and Basketball Wives Orlando. The most successful spin-off was Basketball Wives LA, which lasted 5 seasons from 2011 to 2016.

Henderson starred in the show as well as The Ms. Pat Show star Tami Roman who is the ex-wife of Kenny Anderson, professional dancer Royce Reed who is the mother of Dwight Howard’s oldest son, Jackie Christie, who is the wife of Doug Christie, Brittany Renner, who is he ex-girlfriend of P.J. Washington, Jennifer Williams, the wife of Eric Williams and many others.

A Basketball Wives fan favorite, Evelyn Lozada, ex-fiancé of Antoine Walker, tearfully shared her feelings on the show’s impact and ending.

“It was so many people that loved working on this show,” Lozada shared on the 4th episode of her “Drop Tha Low” podcast.

“We were family. I saw people have kids, get married, I became a grandma. I’m so grateful.” Lozada also mentioned that some of the cast members have communicated with each other to process the news.

The twelfth season aired in May of 2025. Last season’s cast included 9 members, and Henderson appeared as a guest. Basketball Wives ended on its 184th episode.
